UTokyo GUC Field Study Program

8 - 12 June 2026

Hosted by

Th University of Tokyo

The UTokyo GUC Field Study Program, launched in 2026, is a short-term, intensive summer program organised by the Center for Global Education at the University of Tokyo. This new program offers learning opportunities both on the University of Tokyo campus and at UTokyo facilities outside Tokyo, and is being offered for the first time as part of a program that combines rigorous academic coursework—taught entirely in English by current and former UTokyo faculty—with a hands-on field study directly connected to the SDGs. In 2026, the program will be held at the UTokyo Hokkaido Forest in Furano.

The 2026 Hokkaido program delivers an extraordinary 5-day academic and professional journey:

Day 1: Coursework at UTokyo’s historic Hongo Campus in Tokyo

Day 2-5: A field study at UTokyo Hokkaido Forest in Furano, Hokkaido, providing participants with an unparalleled opportunity to learn in the heart of breathtaking nature

The program features small class sizes, typically around 20 students. Enrollment in each course is selective, with participants chosen through a screening process to maintain high academic standards

IARU students are eligible for a 20% discount on the program fees.
